1.1 Describe the duties and responsibilities of own work role

In health and social care, particularly within roles that require person-centred care, the responsibilities and duties of professionals are both broad and specific. Understanding these obligations not only ensures compliance with professional standards but also significantly enhances the quality of care provided to patients.

Primary Duties:

  • Assessment of Needs: Central to my work role is assessing individual client needs. This involves thorough data collection about each client’s physical, emotional, and social states (Brooker & Latham, 2016). Such assessments guide the planning process and help tailor interventions that meet personal preferences and requirements.
  • Care Planning and Implementation: Following assessment, I and other team members, along with all concerned stakeholders, develop detailed care plans that emphasise holistic well-being while respecting personal life choices (Davies & Janes, 2019). Implementing these plans effectively requires constant monitoring and adaptability to accommodate any changes in a client’s condition or circumstances.
  • Support for Independence: Promoting independence is a foundational aspect of person-centred care. My role necessitates encouraging clients as much as possible to perform daily tasks independently or with minimal assistance based on their capabilities.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Communication: Effective communication forms a bedrock for accurately understanding client needs and providing clear explanations about care plans or any changes therein. It’s essential to maintain open lines of communication with other care professionals involved in the patient’s circle of care.
  • Documentation: Accurate record-keeping is indispensable for ongoing client management; it not only provides insights into historical data but also guides future care decisions (Glasby & Dickinson, 2014).
  • Following Ethical Standards: Adhering strictly to established ethical guidelines protects the individual’s rights while ensuring professionalism in every action undertaken (Tadd et al., 2011).

Focusing on personalised caregiving maps directly to improved results in care outcomes (Kitwood, 1997), which underlines my duties across different spectrums—
