1.1 Explain the links between research and evidence-based practice.
Research plays an essential role in the development, improvement and identification of gaps within practice and/or provision. It serves as a tool for gathering data, insights, and evidence that can inform changes to improve health outcomes or identify areas that are lacking.
The value of research lies in its ability to be cost-effective when it comes to introducing interventions – leading to better quality care with fewer resources allocated – while promoting the overall health and well-being of individuals (Stansfield & Arnold 2016).
Also, research enables a range of perspectives to be taken into account in order to identify effective practices. It can include the examination of protocols, guidance, safety regulations and other applicable policies that should guide decisions within organisations (Smith & Rosser 2018).
