1.1 Outline careers and job roles in health and social care.

There are many careers and job roles in health and social care. These include nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, radiography, dietetics and nutrition services. There is also work available in areas such as medical technology or public health that can improve the quality of people’s lives (Weaver et al., 2019). In addition to these more direct care roles, there are supporting functions such as administrative staff coordinating processes or providing financial support. Access points into some sectors may be through traditional education routes like universities offering accredited degrees but other entry points may exist too.

Care Work: This covers various roles supporting vulnerable adults and children, such as those in residential homes. It also includes home care services or helping someone with daily tasks within their own home (Taylor et al., 2017).

Social Work: Working across health and social care settings involves delivering interventions that ensure individuals are safe from harm while leading meaningful lives (Rose & McLean, 2018). Social workers assess needs and make recommendations on outcomes for clients’ well-being. They have specialist skills in communicating effectively with families; assessing risk in complex cases; understanding current legislation impacting service delivery; maintaining professional boundaries etc.

Physiotherapy: Physiotherapists diagnose, assess and treat musculoskeletal problems. They help patients to manage pain or restore mobility by providing treatments such as massage, ultrasound therapy, electrotherapy and therapeutic exercises (Royal College of Physiotherapy 2018).
